When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I started CrossFitting two score and five months ago, and was hooked immediately. What is your favorite/least favorite WOD? Favorite WOD: I love all the Nasty Girls workouts, because.Least Favorite WOD: Do you remember a few seconds ago when I wrote that I love “all” the Nasty Girls workouts? Well, that wasn’t even remotely true, especially with respect to “Annie” (50-40-30-20-10 reps of double-unders and sit-ups).What is your favorite/least favorite movement? The cure for a CrossFit addiction is a prescribed workout of burpees and/or double-unders. To get the romance back, just prescribe rowing, pullups, muscle-ups, HSPUs, or the Assault Bike (yes, I confess, I rather like that little contraption).Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)My dad died when I was 10 years-old with too many things left on his bucket list, so, instead of saying, “someday, I wish…,” I am instead hitting my bucket list right now, hard. I basically love going places and doing stuff – scuba diving with sharks, exploring ancient sunken ruins off the coast of Italy, skiing the Swiss and Italian Alps, hang-gliding … you name it. The downside to this is that every one of my limbs has been in a cast, brace, or sling at one time or another.
What was your workout routine before CrossFit? I did martial arts, lifted weights at a big-box gym, and trained for triathlons and road races. I ran six marathons, including the Pike’s Peak Marathon (twice), and completed the Florida Ironman. The funny thing is, I never really like running, I just thought I was “supposed” to do it.What did you think after your first CrossFit workout? It was kind of a “duh” moment, actually. I immediately realized I’d been wasting my time and energy on other workout methods that weren’t going to provide me with anywhere near the same results as CrossFit (and, in the case of distance running, were actually counterproductive).
What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?Initially, my goals for CrossFit were to make me better at all of the other things I wanted to do – it was not an end in and of itself, but merely a means to some other end. Quickly, however, CrossFit became something I loved doing just for its own sake.Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?
