August Female Athlete Spotlight - Bunni Watts

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started? So I took the leap back in November. You have the French's to thank or blame for my presence at 913 :) What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?Favorite WOD are the partner WODs, I need all the help I can get! Least favorite WOD are EMOMS, the minute always feels so long. What is your favorite/least favorite movement?Favorite movement, squats and deadlifts. Least favorite would be burpees and snatches.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)I was born and raised in Hawaii. I never realized how much the islands meant to me until I moved away. The things I miss the most are the food, the music, the smell of the ocean but mostly my culture (the dancing and singing).I met my husband Vohn, in Hawaii, while he was serving as a Marine. Best decision I ever made hands down was marrying him. We have the coolest little (bigish) family. My oldest is Ku'uipo, she will 16 soon, my son Tiave is 14, Kahikina is 12 and Kanani is 10. The kids are this hybrid of Vohn and I, where they tan like me but they are these little beast athletes like him. So I spend my days, nights and most weekends at sporting events. I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. We also have two pups Sasha and Afa. What was your workout routine before CrossFit?Sadly I did not have one at all. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?First, I was surprised and thankful I made it through the workout. Then I was super proud of myself. Rachael was there waiting for me after my first day with a smile and a hug, I needed both.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?I just needed to do something. I needed to get moving. My goal when I first started was to come consistently 3 times a week. This ended up being an easier goal to reach than I had imagined because the overall energy at the gym is easy to get addicted to. Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?I have spent my entire adult life, focused entirely on my family and raising our kids. If I wasn't doing something for my family, I was a busy bee doing things for others. CrossFit is the first gift I gave myself. An hour a day to push myself, to step outside of my comfort zone and so somehing I can do be proud of. But most importantly, to love myself a little more. Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? For me it's the little things like stringing together my first double unders, being able to do pushups with good form or PRing my run because they add up to all the times I showed up when my body was sore from the last workout or when I had looked at Sugarwod and almost talked myself out of coming in. And I can't say enough about all the wonderful people that workout at 913 that have become friends. What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?First, welcome to the family! Go at your own pace and don't be afraid to ask the coaches for help, they really do care. I want people to know that it doesn't matter your fitness level, there is a place for you here at 913. Something you might not know about me is?Anyone that knows me, knows I am not shy and will talk to anyone, even people that don't want to be talked to, ha :) What can I say? I love people. I grew up as a military brat, my Dad was in the Army. In thirteen years (k-12) I attended twelve different schools... it sounds absolutely crazy but you can thank that for all this awesomeness now! Also my real name is Iva (Eva) Valentino but I was born on Easter so my family has called me "Bunni" since day one.
