May Male Athlete Spotlight - Chad Stanek

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I first found the CrossFit main site around 2010 while searching online for a workout routine that wasn't routine. After trying out a few workouts on my own, I decided those people were crazy and went to find a boxing gym instead. After hearing some friends talk about how much they loved CrossFit a few years later, I found CF913 in 2013 and haven't looked back! What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?Favorite WOD(s): I don't have the strongest snatch, but for some reason I always get excited to see Isabel. I also don't hate Karen. Least favorite WOD: So many to choose from, but I'll go with anything longer than 20-25 minutes (looking at you, Murph). What is your favorite/least favorite movement?avorite movement: I enjoy all the olympic lifts. So simple, yet so complex. I'll also never be disappointed to see a row on the whiteboard. Least favorite movement: Pretty much anything remotely related to gymnastics. There's a reason my gymnastics coach in 3rd grade told my mom to switch me to the swim team...

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)Family: typical JoCo (wife, 2 girls, 2 dogs); Job: work from home for a healthcare consulting company based in Madison, WI; Interests: I love hiking, camping, fishing - anything outdoors. What was your workout routine before CrossFit?Workout routine before CF: I grew up playing sports, so most of my workout routines have centered on training for those. I've also tried boxing and all the other random stuff. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout? Not sure if it was the first, but one of the earliest WODs I did was 7 minutes max effort burpees. Anyone who's done a burpee can guess exactly how I felt after that.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?Goals: Be consistent, don't get bored, be able to live a quality life outside the gym. Aside from the occasional lapse in consistency, I've been pretty successful.Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?The biggest impact outside the gym is the lasting effects of a good morning workout - a good Fran cough reminds me throughout the day that I started on a good path, so I shouldn't mess it up with a bad food choice.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?Memory: I'll always remember my first muscle ups (both ring and bar) - during open WODs.What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?Advice: Push yourself, but don't measure yourself against anyone but yourself. Be consistent, and you'll see progress.Something you might not know about me is?You might not know: I grew up in Wisconsin and will always remain a Badgers fan no matter where I live. On Wisconsin!
