March Female Athlete Spotlight - Sue Zelaya

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I started Crossfit in April 2015, my fiancé Carlos Barboza started while we were going to Life Time, he asked me to go and try Crossfit I went look at it, but I didn't like it; just for being such of germophobic. His daughter and my daughter got involve and left me alone at Life Time, them did not have a choice anymore and had to try it. I fell in love right away because never experience having to finish a workout and have the pressure to do it, the reward after was very satisfyingWhat is your favorite/least favorite WOD?My favorite workout is for time involving lifting weight like cleans and least favorite is EMOM because I feel like I lose my technique trying to stay on track. What is your favorite/least favorite movement? My favorite lift is the clean and my least is snatch just because I haven't picked up the technique.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)My full name is Nilma Sue Zelaya Pavon everyone knows me by Sue, I'm engaged to Carlos Barboza, have a daughter Name Karlis and a baby boy Yorkie named Santi. I'm a seamstress and own my own business here in town, you can find me at Sue's Tailor shop. I love to run for fun to help charity events. I'm interested in starting Yoga. What was your workout routine before CrossFit?Go to Life Time to work out on the machines only and sometimes go for a jog or a bike ride. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?I felt lost with the weight lifting techniques and did not like my 5:15 am coach (TJ) 😜 he made me workout so hard but I was ready for the next day to take the challenge again. What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?I didn't have any goals at the time but I love to push my self to work hard every time. Along the way I have found I could do more than I thought and I am always looking to improve my technique. Now I have specific goals like handstand push ups, hand walks, snatches. Things I couldn't do before that I'm able to do now are rope climbs, overhead squats, pull-ups, run faster to name a few.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?Yes, it has, I have more energy, I'm more healthy and can't stop talking to people about Crossfit.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?Entering competitions and testing myself, love when we went in as a family to suffer in a workout, make new friends, and getting to know people from other cultures. What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?Do not get discouraged after the first workout and keep coming, there is always room for improvement. More than you come easier than it gets. always ask for any concern and trust your coach! they are the best!Something you might not know about me is?I'm a clean freak, I'll throw up at any weird smell, love to speed on my Camaro ;) and always looking for perfection at what I do and love plants and gardening.
