December Male Athlete Spotlight - Rich Villigram

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started? I started Crossfit in December 2017. I needed to try and find something that would keep me committed to my health. What is your favorite/least favorite WOD? Favorite-Murph, Least Favorite-FranWhat is your favorite/least favorite movement? Favorite-Anything with a bar and some weights. Least Favorite-Gymnastic movements

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.) I am currently an Elementary PE teacher at Hillcrest STEAM Academy. I have taught PE for twelve years. Coached football, wrestling, and Track/Field during that time. I played college football at the University of Central Missouri from 2001-2005. I enjoy Star Wars and Marvel movies, reading coaching and self-improvement books. I enjoy fishing with my brother back home. Volunteering at my church and with the homeless in KC. What was your workout routine before CrossFit? Use to go to the gym and have those typical workout days...chest day, leg day, arm day....blah blah blah. Would get tired of the routine and try something new but wouldn’t stick with it. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout? That I was extremely out of shape and the workout was nothing like I had ever experienced before.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals? Wanted to get in shape - Dropped 70 lbs since joining KS/ACPerform a Pull Up - CheckPerform a Toe to Bar - CheckKick up into a Handstand - CheckNext goals - Kipping HSPU, Handstand in open space, one rope climb.Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? I went through a difficult time in my personal life but the people at KS/AC were one of the main reasons I kept showing up. The love and support everyone has for each other is amazing. I don’t know where I would be without the crew at KS/AC! Crossfit and KS/AC definitely helped me get my life back. Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? Competing in my first Crossfit comp with my boy Miguel! What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913? It’s true, just keep showing up. It’s going to suck! It’s going to be difficult. But it’s going to be worth it in the end. Crossfit will keep you humble but lift you up in your achievements. Something you might not know about me is? I’m a Star Wars and Comic book nerd!
