February Male Athlete Spotlight - Randy Maddox

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I got started Crossfitting in March of 2017. I saw a post on Facebook and thought, why not??What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?

My favorite Wod would be anything with running and I also like deadlift....and those that y'all partner us with is also fun

Least favorite is anything doing with snatches--some days are good others not so much....DU are challenging for me too.

What is your favorite/least favorite movement?Well favorite is deadlift/back squat and I am beginning to like front squat. I think y'all know my least favorite movement: SNATCHES!

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)A little bit about Randy: I live with my Mom, ever since pops passed away (3 years now) mom didn't wanna stay in the house in Miami; I said I have plenty of room here so here she is. I have a couple of jobs: Nothing Bundt Cakes and Neo-natal Nurse at Children's Mercy! Interests include anything Cross-Country/Track & Field or Reading a good book. What was your workout routine before CrossFit?I really didn't have much of a routine before joining--I ran here & thereWhat did you think after your first CrossFit workout? After my fist workout, with Coach Anthony, I thought I was gonna DIE and what the heck did I get into. What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?

Goals: get off my blood pressure meds/eat better; overall better fitness & lifestyle choices and I can honestly say that I have achieved all three!

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?Yes, CrossFit has affected me; I sleep better, eat better, and doing stuff I never imagined I would do. Plus, I think I am gonna do a 5k this year.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? One memory (or two, rather) that stands out to me is when I ran a mile for the first time--I wasn't expecting much and my time reflected that--12;01.72-- 6 short weeks later I ran 9:58.92 more than two minutes in just SIX weeks--that made me a believer. What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?Some advice to newbies: ask questions, if you are not sure--the Coaches are here to help. Do NOT be afraid to put yourself out there and feel uncomfortable and learn by failing.Something you might not know about me is?

A couple of things that y'all might not know about me: I AM GAY (ok that one U all probably know); let's see I was in the US Army and would not trade the experience for anything.
