When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started? TJ’s sister-in-law Katie Kiblen told me about CrossFit almost 3 years ago, so I took a class with her and was immediately hooked! What is your favorite/least favorite WOD? My favorite WOD is MURPH, it’s a long one but I like the longer workouts. My least favorite is any WOD that has to happen in under 5 minutes! What is your favorite/least favorite movement? My favorite movement is back squats. My least favorite is probably snatches.Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)I am married to my husband Joe, together we have four kids; Lindsey 27, Taylor 10, Riley 4 and Prestan 2. Riley and Prestan are our foster sons and we are hoping to make them our legal children soon! I graduated in 2014 with a degree in Sociology from Fort Hays State University and I work part-time as a Project Manager for a retail design firm. I am looking at going back to school to obtain my degree in Nursing. We are big sports fans! Love going to Royals games and K-STATE football games! Go Wildcats!! We also enjoy traveling and being outdoors and going to our children’s school and sporting events.

What was your workout routine before CrossFit? Before CrossFit I belonged to Lifetime Fitness, I would do weights and cardio and some classes but I would never push myself the way that the coaches here do.What did you think after your first CrossFit workout? At first I thought I was going to puke! Then I thought “this is awesome”!What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals? My goal when I first started were to be able to finish the WOD! Then be able to do “real” push-ups, pull-ups and to be able to climb that darn rope! I have achieved those goals! My next goal is to hit a 200# back squat!Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? It has definitely given me more energy and has made me stronger and more confident. I have also built some great friendships through CrossFit. The CrossFit community is like no other, the support and encourage you get is something you will not find at just any workout establishment.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here? Anytime I hit one of my personal goals it is a great achievement for me. Also, competing in my first CrossFit 913 competition was a big deal for me, I am not the most outgoing person so to be able to do the workouts in front of a large group of people was a big step for me!What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913? Try not to get discouraged; some days will be easier and some days you will not want to come back. We have all been there! Give it time and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish!Something you might not know about me is? I have recently lost over 40 pounds! It’s crazy how those suckers can creep on!! But through working out and following a Ketogenic lifestyle, which is a high good fat, protein diet recommended by a couple of the Cross Fit 913 athletes, I have been able to lose the weight and I feel amazing! I love sharing my story and hope that it can help and inspire others to be healthy as well!!
