Looking for a CrossFit gym in Overland Park that actually feels like somewhere you want to be? Try 28 days for just $28 and see what the fuss is about.
Kansas Athletic Club was not built to be the loudest gym in town. It was built because people needed a place that actually cared about them.
KAC was founded out of real personal struggle — loss, addiction, and the kind of obstacles that don't make it onto Instagram highlight reels. That origin shapes everything about how the gym operates. There is no pressure to compete. There is no judgment if you scale a workout. There is just a room full of people who showed up to feel better, coached by people who want the same thing for them.
That matters more than you might think when you're choosing where to work out. A gym can have all the right equipment and still feel like the wrong place. At KAC, members stick around because the community is real. People remember your name. Coaches notice when you haven't been in for a few days. The 5 AM crew becomes your actual friends, not just people you nod at between sets.
Health and longevity come first here. That means smart programming, consistent coaching, and workouts designed to keep you moving well for decades — not just looking good for a weekend competition.
CrossFit at KAC follows the CrossFit methodology: constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. In plain English, that means every day is a little different, the movements mimic things you actually do in life (squat, lift, push, pull, carry), and you work hard.
Every class follows a structured format. You warm up with movements that prepare your body for the day's work. You build strength with focused barbell or bodyweight training. Then you hit the MetCon — the conditioning piece that gets your heart rate up and builds your engine. You cool down, you stretch, and you go home feeling like you did something worthwhile.
Classes run six days a week with enough time slots to fit almost any schedule:
Monday through Friday: 5:00 AM, 6:15 AM, 8:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 4:30 PM, and 5:30 PM. Saturday: 8:00 AM.
Every class is coached. Not "someone standing in the corner on their phone" coached — actually coached. Cues on your form, adjustments to your weight, and scaling options that let you get a great workout no matter where you are in your fitness journey.
If you have never done CrossFit before, that is completely fine. Many of our members started with zero experience. Check out our guide on beginner CrossFit in Overland Park to see what your first few weeks would look like.
Not everyone wants to learn the snatch. That is a reasonable position to hold.
Sweat Bootcamp is KAC's program for members who want the intensity and community of group fitness without Olympic lifts and gymnastics. Sweat uses dumbbells, kettlebells, bodyweight movements, and cardio equipment to build strength and conditioning in a format that is approachable from day one.
Sweat classes run Monday through Friday at 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, and 5:30 PM, plus Saturdays at 9:15 AM.
The programming is just as structured and intentional as CrossFit. You get a warm-up, a strength block, accessory work, a conditioning piece, and a cool-down. The difference is the tools — no barbells in the conditioning work, no kipping pull-ups, no handstand push-ups. Just hard, smart training that leaves you feeling confident.
Curious how the two programs compare? We break it down in our post on bootcamp vs. CrossFit.
For members who want to get better with a barbell, KAC runs a dedicated Olympic Weightlifting session every Saturday at 7:00 AM. This hour-long class focuses on the snatch, clean, and jerk — the two competition lifts in Olympic weightlifting — with an emphasis on positions, timing, and technique.
Coach TJ Kiblen, a CF-L2 and former competitive CrossFit athlete, leads the Saturday session. The format is focused: barbell warm-up drills, a primary complex (alternating snatch and clean focus week to week), and additional technique or pull work if time allows.
You do not need to be an experienced lifter to attend. If you can front squat and overhead squat with an empty bar, you have enough to get started. The session is designed to build skill over time, not test it on day one. Learn more about Olympic weightlifting in Overland Park.
One of the things that sets Kansas Athletic Club apart from other gyms in Overland Park is the coaching staff. Every coach at KAC holds at least a CrossFit Level 1 certification, and several hold Level 2. More importantly, they come from backgrounds that make them genuinely good at helping people.
TJ Kiblen (CF-L2) is the founder of KAC and a former competitive CrossFit athlete. TJ built KAC from personal experience — both in high-level training and in overcoming real challenges off the gym floor. His programming reflects that balance: challenging enough to drive results, smart enough to keep you healthy long-term.
Austin Miller (CF-L2) is a former teacher and personal trainer. Austin brings a knack for breaking down complex movements in ways that click. If you have ever struggled with a lift and had a coach explain it three different ways until something landed, that is Austin's style.
John Boisen (CF-L1) played college football and currently coaches football at Blue Valley North. John brings an athlete's understanding of training and a coach's patience to every class.
Emily Hensley (CF-L1) teaches art at Blue Valley North and coaches at KAC. Emily has a talent for making people feel at ease in the gym, especially members who are brand new.
Pat Chandler (CF-L1) is a former physical therapist and collegiate baseball player. Pat's background in rehab and movement science means he watches how you move — not just what you lift.
Katlynn McConville is a former collegiate softball player. She has a background in exercises science with a strong knowledge of the body make her a sharp, detail-oriented coach.
